An interesting species, P. capitatum has lovely mauve to purple-pink flowers and a nice faint rose scent to the leaves.

Introduced to England in 1690 by Hans William Bentinck, head steward to William of Orange. It is found on the coastal areas of South Africa.  This is the species which sometimes get confused with the cultivars of 'Attar of Roses' or 'Pink Capricorn'.

These plants are supplied in a 6cm biodegradable pot which you can put straight into the pot or location you wish.  As time goes on the pot will simply compost down and the plant will happily grow on.

Position: Full sun

Hardiness: Requires protection from frost

Growing media: A loam based compost or a good quality multipurpose compost.

Growth rate:  Fast

Flowering period: All year round

How to care for your plant:

If used as summer bedding plant at least 40cm apart.
Remove dead flowers regularly and feed once a week with a high potash feed (a good tomato feed will do it!) to encourage a better & longer flowering season.
Water well, then allow compost to dry before watering again.
