June at Growing Crazy: Gold Medals, Gardeners’ World, Rachel de Thame and Monty Don!

What a whirlwind month it’s been at Growing Crazy!

If you caught us on BBC Gardeners’ World, you’ll have seen our little nursery take centre stage, sharing our passion for Pelargoniums with the nation. It was a real honour to be featured—especially being introduced by Monty Don and interviewed by the wonderful Rachel de Thame. We’re so proud to be flying the flag for these fascinating, diverse, and wonderful plants. Monty even came back to buy a few more plants to take to Longmeadow.

And if that wasn’t exciting enough… we took home a GOLD MEDAL at BBC Gardeners’ World Live at the NEC!
Our Georgian-inspired display celebrated the rich diversity of Pelargoniums, with heritage varieties, scented foliage, and dramatic leaf shapes—all set against a backdrop inspired by the grand gardens and orangeries of the 18th century. It’s been a true labour of love, and we’re over the moon that the judges loved it as much as we did.

Behind the Scenes

We’ve also been busy behind the scenes keeping up with orders, potting on young plants, and getting the nursery into shape. We have been overwhelmed by the response from our appearance on TV—from existing customers, visitors to the floral marquee and the people who have sent so many lovely messages of encouragement and support. It really has been truly fantastic and we can't thank everyone enough!

Pelargonium Care in June

June is the perfect time to enjoy your Pelargoniums as they hit their stride. Here are a few tips to keep them looking fabulous all summer long:

• Feed weekly with a high-potash fertiliser like tomato food to encourage blooms.
• Water sensibly—allow the compost to dry slightly between waterings, but don’t let them go bone dry.
• Deadhead regularly to keep plants flowering and looking neat.
• Pinch out leggy growth for bushier plants and more blooms.
• Watch for pests like aphids or whitefly, especially in warm, humid conditions.
