Growing Crazy Joins the Nursery Exhibitors Organisation Supporting UK Specialist Nurseries

We’re really pleased to share that Growing Crazy is now a member of the Nursery Exhibitors Organisation (NEO) - a new organisation created to support independent specialist plant nurseries in the UK. In fact, we were one of the first nurseries to support the idea and sign up as the organisation was being formed.

Supporting specialist plant nurseries

The Nursery Exhibitors Organisation was set up to represent independent plant nurseries that exhibit at flower shows, plant fairs, and horticultural events across the UK.

Specialist nurseries play an important role in horticulture. Many of us grow unusual plants, heritage varieties, and specialist collections that simply aren’t available in garden centres. We also help preserve plant diversity, share knowledge with gardeners, and keep traditional nursery skills alive.

However, the number of independent UK nurseries has declined significantly over the past couple of decades. Organisations like NEO aim to help strengthen the sector by bringing nurseries together and giving specialist growers a stronger voice within the horticultural industry.

Promoting British-grown plants

One of the key aims of the Nursery Exhibitors Organisation is to promote the value of British-grown plants and highlight the importance of buying plants from specialist growers.

Many independent nurseries grow plants themselves from cuttings, seed, or stock plants - often nurturing them for months or even years before they are ready to sell.

At Growing Crazy, this approach is central to what we do. Our collection of heritage and unusual Pelargoniums is grown carefully in our nursery, and many of the varieties we grow have fascinating histories or unique characteristics that you won’t often find elsewhere.

A strong response from nurseries

The response to the new organisation has been incredibly positive. Membership numbers increased rapidly soon after launching, showing just how many specialist nurseries across the UK are keen to work together and support the future of the sector.

For us, joining NEO felt like a natural step. Exhibiting at plant fairs and flower shows is a big part of what we do, and it’s where we get to meet so many passionate gardeners and plant collectors.

Being part of a network of specialist nurseries helps us all share ideas, support each other, and celebrate the incredible diversity of plants grown by independent nurseries in the UK.

Looking ahead

We’re excited to see how the Nursery Exhibitors Organisation develops and we’re proud to have supported it right from the start.

Specialist nurseries play an important role in the diversity and future of horticulture, and organisations like NEO help ensure that independent growers, rare plants, and specialist collections continue to thrive.
